The Trojan fan base were like glossy-eyed, soulless bodies aimlessly wandering about during this dark time muttering “Leinart,” “Bush” and if you tried to strike up a conversation, they’d blurt out “In Pete We Trust.” Well, now with a Rose Bowl victory and Matt Leinart’s inevitable induction to the SC Hall of Fame, they can return to their normal lives of endless victories…

“Three-time All-American first team quarterback Matt Leinart, USC’s 2004 Heisman Trophy winner who led the Trojans to a pair of national championships, has been named to the 13-member 2017 College Football Hall of Fame Class.
He is the 43rd inductee with USC ties, including 32 players, in the College Football Hall of Fame. A Trojan has been elected into the Hall in 12 of the past 18 years.
Leinart will be inducted at a Dec. 5 dinner in New York City.
His 2017 classmates include 9 other players – Notre Dame linebacker Bob Crable, San Diego State running back Marshall Faulk, Michigan State wide receiver Kirk Gibson, Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning, Texas offensive tackle Bob McKay, Texas A&M linebacker Dat Nguyen, Georgia Southern running back Adrian Peterson, Boston College nose guard Mike Ruth and New Mexico defensive back Brian Urlacher – along with 3 coaches: Danny Ford of Clemson and Arkansas, Larry Kehres of Mount Union and Steve Spurrier of Duke, Florida and South Carolina.
Leinart completed 64.8% of his passes for 10,693 yards and 99 touchdowns during his 3 seasons (2003-05) as USC’s starting quarterback, guiding the Trojans to a 37-2 record in that span. USC won the 2003 and 2004 national titles and played for the crown in 2005. He was MVP of the 2004 Rose Bowl and 2005 Orange Bowl as the Trojans defeated Michigan and Oklahoma, respectively.
A 2-time USC captain and 3-time All-Pac-10 first teamer, he was the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004, winning the Archie Griffin Award both seasons. In 2004, he also won the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, AP Player of the Year and Manning Award, while in 2005 he won the Unitas Golden Arm Award and Pop Warner Award. He twice was a finalist for the Sullivan Award.
In his career, he set 16 USC records, 11 Pac-10 records (including career completion percentage and TD passes) and 2 NCAA marks.
A first-round NFL Draft choice, he played 7 seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals (2006-09), Houston Texans (2010-11) and Oakland Raiders (2012), appearing in Super Bowl XLIII with the Cardinals.
He was inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007 and made the Pac-12 All-Century Team in 2015.
He now is a college football studio analyst with FOX Sports. He also established the Matt Leinart Foundation to create athletic opportunities for underprivileged youth.”
